Brief introduction
School of Education, Jiangxi Normal University, with a long history, can be traced back to the department of education in National Chung Cheng University, which is founded in 1940 when noted educators Chen Heqin, Luo Tingguang and Qiu Chun taught here. After the readjustment of departments in our country, the department was canceled and teaching and research section was established. Education Department was reestablished in 1980 and it began to recruit students in 1981. Education Department was again canceled in 1996 and School of Educational Science was founded, and then College of Education was founded in 2003. In October, 2008, Psychology was removed from the College and a new College of Education was founded.
The College has 4 provincial scientific research institutions, including provincial 2011 coordinated innovation center “the quality monitoring, assessment and service coordinated innovation center in Jiangxi province based on the big data”, Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Center in Colleges and Universities in Jiangxi Province “Teachers’ Education Research Center” and “Preschool Education Research Center”, Culture and Science Art Key Research Base in Jiangxi Province “Jiangxi Academy Culture and Education Research Center.”
At present, the college has 59 teachers, including 47 full-time teachers, 8 professors, 15 associate professors, among which 31 of them have doctorate degrees, 2 of them enjoy Special government allowances of the State Council. Also, there is 1 member in the Ministry of Education in Colleges and Universities Teaching Steering Committee, one national educational inspector, 1 distinguished professor of “Jinggang Scholar”, 2 members in “Ganpo Elites 555 Project”, 1 Jiangxi province young and middle aged cultural experts, 3 Jiangxi province colleges and universities young and middle aged academic leaders, 1 provincial prominent educator, 2 members in Jiangxi Province New Millennium Talents Project, 3 national prominent teacher of EDM, 1 member in discipline appraisal group of Academic Degrees Committee of Jiangxi People’s Government, 1 standing committee member of the CPCC Jiangxi Committee and 2 vice chairmen of Educational Society of Jiangxi Province.
Since the reestablishment of the department in 1980, it has fostered various students more than 8000. At present, there are 4 undergraduate programs, including preschool education, elementary education special education and public affairs administration (educational administration), which is listed on the first batch of national featured programs. It has fostered more than 4000 undergraduate students.
In term of discipline construction, it independently set up second-level discipline program for Ph. D candidates “Marxism and the Development of Chinese Economy and Society”. “Pedagogy” is a first-level discipline for master program, and it sets up second-level discipline for master programs, including Principle of Pedagogy, History of Education, Preschool Pedagogy, Comparative Pedagogy, Educational Leadership and Management, Andragogy, Curriculum and Teaching Methodology, Higher Pedagogy, Elementary Education and Education Technology. In addition, it still has master program Educational Economy and Management. Pedagogy is awarded as “High Level Subject in Jiangxi Provincial Colleges and Universities” and model master program in Jiangxi province. Over 600 students have been awarded master’s degree. It began to recruit Master of education majored in educational administration in 2000, and 400 students have graduated.
As for scientific research, it undertakes over 30 items in National Social Science Fund, National Science Foundation and National Education Scientific Planning Projects, and over 100 provincial research topics. It has published over 100 academic papers in key periodicals like Educational Research and Research in Higher Education., and over 500 articles in other periodicals. Over 60 achievements were reprinted by Xinhua Digest, reprinted material Pedagogy in Renmin University of China and Ethics. Over 30 works are published in People’s Education Press, People’s Publishing House, Higher Education Press, Science and Education Press and China Social Scientific Publishing House. Besides, over 30 works are published in other publish houses. It has been awarded once second class prize and twice third class by the National excellent Achievement of Education Scientific Research, once first level and one second level prize of National Excellent Education Books, 4 times second level and third level Outstanding Scientific Discovery of Chinese Education Society and China Association of Higher Education, over 10 first-level prizes and over 40 second-level and third-level prize of provincial scientific outputs and education achievement.
Over the years, College of Education vigorously improves the undergraduate teaching level and discipline construction level, and actively serves the society. It actively undertakes various kinds of teacher’s training programs, including primary and secondary school teachers training, special school teachers training, preschool education staff training, secondary vocational school staff training, successfully trained over 15000 people over the past 5 years. Joining hands with platforms such as Preschool Education research Center and 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center, the college actively constructs Inter-college Cooperation System, facilitates the reform and development of primary education. At present, College of Education has already established stable cooperation relationship with nearly 100 primary and secondary schools.
We will unremittingly pursuit development and strive to develop our institute into a local leading and nationally-konwn teaching and research institute.
