College of chemistry and chemical engineering at Jiangxi normal university, which originated from the department of chemical engineering of National Chung Cheng institute of technology in October 1940, is one of the earliest colleges. After years of integration, it was renamed as this college in 2004.
Until now, it offers 4 undergraduate majors in this college, such as chemistry, applied chemistry, material chemistry, and chemical engineering and technology. And chemistry and applied chemistry are named both national professional characteristics and provincial professional brand. It has already been approved to construct the state demonstration center for chemistry experimental teaching, four provincial quality (excellent) courses, and the provincial demonstration center for chemistry experimental teaching. In the past five years, it has been awarded for three times of the second Provincial Teaching Achievement Prize at Jiangxi province.
It has a reasonable academics organization in the college, and was approved as the first-level discipline to confer the doctoral and master degree, and post-doctoral flow station, now has three master degree programs of applied chemistry, material physics and chemistry, and three professional master degree programs of chemistry engineering, discipline teaching (chemistry), and science education. Furthermore, chemistry is the high-level subject in Jiangxi province, and the organic chemistry and polymer chemistry are the key subjects in the provincial level.
The college has established a multi-level talent training system for undergraduate, master, doctoral and post-doctoral students in Jiangxi, western and even the whole country.
Currently, there are 937 undergraduates, 281 postgraduate students and 36 doctoral candidates.
The faculty is composed of 106 persons, including 80 full-time teachers, 20 professors, 40 associate professors, and 66 doctorate teachers. In this team, there have been a number of excellent people, such as the Lever 1 or 2 of state class person selected for New Century Talents Project, a national outstanding professional and technical personnel, a National Excellent Scientist, one project for New Century Excellent Talents of Ministry of Education of China, five specialists who enjoy the State Council Special Allowance, three specialists who enjoy the Provincial Government Special Allowance, two top talents for Provincial Outstanding Achievement Awards, three Jinggang scholars in Jiangxi province, seven major academic and technical leaders in Jiangxi province, eight talents for Ganpo 555 in Jiangxi province, eight persons selected for New Century Talents Project in Jiangxi province, one provincial model worker, one person of Provincial Labor Medal, one person of May 4th Youth Medal of Jiangxi province, seven young scientists in Jiangxi province, nine young and middle-aged academic leaders, nine key teachers, and ten excellent graduate student tutors teachers in Jiangxi province.
The college could serve as a valuable research platform, which owned a national engineering research center for carbohydrate synthesis, a national-local joint engineering laboratory of zeolite membrane materials, a key laboratory of functional small organic molecule from ministry of education, two high level platforms of Jiangxi colleges and universities, a provincial center for collaborative innovation in 2011; three provincial key laboratories (eg. Jiangxi’s key laboratory of fine chemical, Jiangxi’s key laboratory of green chemistry, Jiangxi province key laboratory of chemical biology), three provincial engineering and technical research centers (eg. Jiangxi engineering research center for carbohydrate synthesis; Jiangxi inorganic membrane materials engineering research center; Jiangxi nano-fiber engineering research center), a collaboration of the Jiangxi provincial chemical engineering and technology research and development center, three provincial science and technology innovation teams (eg. synthesis and application of polymer nano-fiber, fine chemicals and membrane materials), a high level laboratory of advanced functional materials in Jiangxi province, and a nano-fiber engineering research center in Jiangxi university.
The academic achievements are fruitful. The projects have been sponsored by a large number of national and provincial research projects, such as the National High-Technology Project (863), the National Science and Technology Attack Plan, the International Cooperation Ministry of Science and major project, and the Natural Science Foundation of China. The international academic publication has published a batch of high-quality academic papers (eg. J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater.;Macromolecules, J. Org. Chem., Anal. Chem., J. Phys. Chem. B, J. Mater. Chem., Chem. Eur. J., Energy Environ. Sci., ChemSusChem., Chem. Commun., Green Chem., Biosens. Bioelectron., Org. Lett., Inorg. Chem.), the annual average number of published papers was over 200 articles, and the annual average number of invention patents were more than 20 patents. In the last three years, six papers have been published in top publications like J. Am. Chem. Soc., and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., whose impact factor was more than 10. In addition, the college was awarded of the second prize of the national science and technology progress, three programs of the first and second prize of scientific and technological progress in Jiangxi province, and three programs of the second prize of the natural sciences in Jiangxi province.
The characteristics of the college include insisting on basic research, highlighting applied research, and strengthening the innovation and invention of the contents, emphasized basic research, continuously strengthened the integration of enterprises, universities and research institutes. It established the distinguishing characteristics of "sugar", "agent", "cloth", "membrane", whose research are in the advanced position of both domestic and international. The college has many scientific research achievements to be transformed into production, the annual production value exceeds 100 million yuan, become a success story and stand for enterprises, universities and research institutes.
Chemistry is the 12th five year "high level" discipline in Jiangxi province, and has passed the acceptance by excellent grade. According to the reports on the academic evaluation of Chinese universities, our chemistry discipline would continue to maintain 1% of the global Essential Science Indicators in 2015 and 2016, which marked that our academic development has entered the international high-level discipline.
According to the latest report of Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation (RCCSE) and Chinese education quality evaluation center in Wuhan university, our chemical ranked 49th in the country, the ninth national normal university, and the first in Jiangxi province.
In the course of more than seventy years, with relentless efforts of several generations, the qualified graduate students accumulated more than 10000 people, who have moved across the country and made an important contributions to for elementary and higher education, the development of social and economic in Jiangxi, and even the whole country. Many of them are awarded as Distinguished Professors in Cheung Kong Scholars, the PI of a One-hundred talent program, National Outstanding Youth Science Fund Project, special-class teacher, local government leadership, as well as enterprises and institutions of the senior management personnel and technical backbone. The college has become an important base to train teachers, researchers, managerial, technical and service talents for the country.
Our college has entering into a new historical stage of development.
